○ Serum

Other Information

○ A positive result for HAV IgG (in the absence of IgM) indicates immunity to HAV.
○ A positive result for HAV IgM with or without IgG suggests recent/acute infection with HAV, in the right clinical picture.

○ Serum separator tube

○ Decontaminate skin with 70% alcohol followed by iodine or chlorhexidine, collect at least 5 mL of blood

○ Up to 3 days
○ 21 days for genotyping

○ Label specimen container. Place specimens in biohazard bag and seal.

○ Specimens should be stored and transported to the UHN/SH Microbiology Laboratory at refrigeration temperature (2-8˚C) immediately after collection

○ A positive IgM result will be sent to PHOL for genotyping.
