Other Information
○This test is only performed upon special request and requires approval by a Public Health Ontario Laboratory (PHOL) Microbiologist.
○An Arbovirus (Non-Zika) Testing Intake Form must be completed along with a PHO General Test Requisition Form. All fields on each requisition must be completed.
○Specimens will be delayed/rejected if received without the mandatory intake forms.

1 mL of serum collected in a serum separator tube (Gold top tube)
1 mL of other specimens (ie: CSF, tissues, etc) collected in a sterile container

Serum, CSF, Tissues, or Urine

Serum:
○ Decontaminate skin with 70% alcohol followed by iodine or chlorhexidine, collect at least 1.0 mL of blood

Public Health Ontario Laboratory (PHOL)

○Testing is not performed routinely and is available by special request ONLY
○TAT is approximately 12 days following the completion of initial screening of Dengue, Chikungunya and/or Zika virus
○TAT for confirmatory testing may take up to 21 business days once referred to the National Microbiology Laboratory (NML)

Yes, please contact the Microbiologist-on-call through locating for approval.

○ Label specimen container and place specimens in biohazard bag and seal
○ Transport specimens to the UHN/SHS Microbiology Laboratory ASAP on ice packs if possible
○ UHN/SHS Microbiology Laboratory will refer specimen to Public Health Ontario Laboratory (PHOL) for testing
