○ Biopsy material ○ Worm removed from stomach during endoscopy

Other Information

○ Indicate appropriate clinical information on requisition (e.g. symptoms, date of onset, consumption of undercooked or raw seafood, travel history or country of origin if refugee, returned traveller or recent immigrant, eosinophilia, HIV, immunocompromised, critical illness or ICU admission or previous parasite infection.

○ Sterile container (plus small amount of saline if biopsy material)

Biopsy material
○ Collect at least 5-10 mm3 tissue aseptically using surgical technique. Place in a clean, sterile container with a small amount of sterile saline.

Worm removed during endoscopy
○ Collect worm aseptically and place in a clean, sterile container.

○ Label specimen container. Place specimens in biohazard bag and seal.

○ Specimens should be stored and transported to the UHN/SH Microbiology Laboratory at room temperature (20-25˚C) ASAP after collection.

○ The specimen will be referred to Public Health Ontario Laboratory for testing
